PHOTOGRAPHY
GROUP
Come along to our photo sessions to dust off your camera and get snap-happy with a professional photography instructor.

Brush up on your camera skills and learn new photography techniques whilst on a photo walk class with other local keen photographers!

We run two hour photography sessions based on a photography theme/technique/style and they take place in various locations in Edmonton.

  • New to photography? We also run a popular 3 hour Beginners Guide to Photography Class once a month. And once in a while we will run special niche 3 hour classes, for example, Astrophotography - so do subscribe to our newsletter to know when the next on is!

  • Who can attend? Open to all skill levels, from beginners to keen amateurs. The photography instructor is there to help you with camera settings and provide any advice you need.

  • What to bring? We recommend bringing a camera that has full manual mode or semi-manual modes (Aperture or Shutter Priority). Compact cameras and smartphones also welcome!

The meeting point and full details for the day are sent in the booking confirmation email to the email address you provide at time of booking.

Join the Edmonton Photography Group on Facebook to share your photos after the session.

From capturing the serene beauty of nature on hiking trails to the exhilarating energy of live events, photography has been my constant companion for the past 5-6 years. What started as a hobby evolved into a deep-seated passion, particularly in event, sports, and street photography. Self-taught through voracious reading, philosophical musings on photography, and mastering niche styles like concerts and infrared, I've celebrated several milestones. These include being a finalist in a nationwide amateur photography competition, securing contracts with local news organizations to cover notable acts like Sum 41 and The Offspring and joining media teams for large festivals.

Now, as I embark on my journey as a photography educator, I'm excited to share my knowledge and enthusiasm with aspiring photographers. I firmly believe in Bruce Barnbaum's philosophy which is: "I once heard that three human ingredients will combine to produce success in any field of endeavor: enthusiasm, talent, and hard work, and that a person can be successful with only two of those attributes, as long as one of the two is enthusiasm!" Through my courses, students can expect to grasp the fundamentals and find their niche in the vast world of photography.

Let's capture moments and inspire creativity together!

This little guy waited for me to focus, refocus and take a few steps closer and posed like a pro, moving his head from side to side so I could capture his best side. He was quite happy to cooperate for a minute or two!Shot with a Nikon Z50

While photographing the hummingbirds in Crystal Cove State park, a park ranger stopped and told me about the Albino hummingbird and the likely location. Following his instructions, I found this hummingbird. It was difficult getting a photo because of the sun location, so had to find my way into the scrub brush. The park ranger warned me about rattle snakes and their babies, the mom and babies will all attack at once and that would be a heavy dose of venom.

A blanket of snow is just that, a blanket, a covering, a surface accumulation of snow that serves to protect and insulate our cherubs from the extreme weather is a blessing.

    Title or Location: Abraham Lake
I was on a day trip with my friend Sydney last February that took us past Abraham Lake and down into Banff National Park. I pulled over to see if the lake was frozen enough where we were to go skating (spoiler, it wasn't at that end). But we saw the mountain goats grazing and thankfully I had my camera out. I got quite a lot of good shots that cold, windy day.

The North America Nebula derives it's name from it's resemblance to the continental United States, Mexico, and the Gulf of Mexico. The nebula is about 2,600 Light years away in the constellation Cygnus, visible during the summer and fall. This narrowband image is a composite of three wavelengths of light known as Hydrogen-alpha, Sulfur II and Oxygen III, with each wavelength assigned to the R, G, or B color channel to compose a full color image.

On this dewy, fresh morning something compelled me to grab my camera and take a picture as sandhill cranes strolling gracefully through the front yard. Harriet pictured here is, as always, accompanied by Ozzie and their offspring of the season. They have been welcomed morning coffee mates for the last 12 years. The picture captures the calm presence and the dancer's restlessness of these beautiful visitors.

The Great Reno Balloon Race was this weekend. About a dozen balloon are up and aglow before dawn. This beautiful one was my favorite. Most shooting were using auto white balance, cloudy, or 5600K to keep the yellow cast from the flame. I prefer a white balance which retains the true colors of the balloons, especially for this balloon.
